Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Mrs Pamela Bryant, said: “We are greatly saddened by the loss of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and we ask the citizens of Fareham to join us in paying their condolences during this difficult time.”
The Union Flag will be flown at half-mast at the civic offices and the Mayor is also set to send a letter to the Private Secretary of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh expressing the sadness of the council and the people of the borough.

A council spokesperon said: "We are deeply saddened by the announcement from Buckingham Palace this afternoon of the death of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh."
The Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Darshan Mann has paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh on behalf of the people of Eastleigh Borough.
He said: "I would like to express our deep sadness at the passing on 9 April of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited the Borough on a number of occasions and he will be remembered fondly by all who met him.
"We send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and wish them strength during this sad period. Our flag is now flying at half mast.”

The Bishop of Winchester has paid tribute to Prince Philip, saying the nation has lost a "great statesman".

The Cabinet will meet at 5pm to pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, Downing Street said.
Parliament will be recalled from its Easter recess on Monday, a day earlier than its scheduled return, for further tributes.

A Southampton MP has described Prince Philip as "a father figure to us all".
The Duke of Edinburgh has died, Buckingham Palace has announced.
Philip, 99, was the longest-serving consort in British history.
The duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side.
He officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017.
The Palace said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
“Further announcements will made in due course.
“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
