SOUTHAMPTON is set to be bathed in light as a popular festival return this evning.
The Festival of Light will be back for a fourth year at The Esplanade near Westquay.
The brand new installations will illuminate the historic walls from tonight until February 23.
Andy Collyer, General Manager at Westquay said: "We are thrilled to once again host The Festival of Light.
"Since its inaugural display in 2017, the festival has fast become a firm favourite in Westquay’s annual events programme, with people coming from near and far enjoy the free event.
"We look forward to delighting guests visiting this year."
The display's interactive installations have captivated the publics interest and imaginations over the years and this years display should be no different.
The 'Pulse' installation is made up of loop structures and LED lights and sound.
'Affinity' by amigo & amigo, is an interactive light and sound installation that has been inspired by the human brain, with each light representing a memory.
The 'Birds Fly Around With You' by Light Art Collection, gives spectators the illusion of flying birds, which increases as more people enter the installation.
'Neon Angel Wings' by Carlo O'Brien, has caught the eyes of many, selfie savvy snappers.
The light festival will be the first of many held in the city this year as part of the 400th anniversary celebrations of the Mayflower.
Cllr Satvir Kaur the Cabinet Member for Homes and Culture, said: "Light plays an important part in the Mayflower 400 year.
"Throughout the anniversary programme there will be a number of projects that shine a light on Southampton and its communities to commemorate the positive and negative aspects of this event, these include: Shadows and Light at City Art Gallery, Towers of Light at Weston Shore, KRYT from "Dutch artist Gijs van Bon and the national programme Illuminate which will take place across the UK.
"Westquay are one of many important partners that are helping us to build our ambitions during 2020 and on our journey to UK City of Culture.
"Please take advantage and get involved."
The festival will run from 5pm to 10pm daily.
