A HAMPSHIRE student is celebrating boxing success after giving a knockout performance in a national competition.
Barton Peveril student Taylor Bevan has won the Great Britain Three Nations Boxing Championship which took place at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff on May 6.
Despite studying in Eastleigh, Taylor represents Wales and trains at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.
This year a has been a very successful year for the boxer, who has won 18 out of 19 amateur fights.
The championship saw the national champions from England, Scotland and Wales contest for the title of Great British Champion.
Taylor won the under 69kg youth category beating the Scottish national champion in the Semi-final and the English national champion in the final.
Speaking on the competition and his hopes for the future, Taylor said: “It felt amazing winning and was a bit of a relief as I’d already beaten the English champion earlier in the season, so I’m happy I could prove myself again. I stuck to my game plan and came out on top. I’m now moving up a weight class, hopefully building up to the European Championship in September.”
He now plans to move up to the 75kg middleweight weight class during his off-season.
