THE medal for this year’s ABP Southampton Marathon has been revealed.
As reported, the Daily Echo teamed up with marathon organisers to give a reader the chance to design the ABP Southampton Mile Fun Run medal. School pupils across the Southampton area were asked to enter a competition.
Now, Bitterne Park Primary School pupil Erin Collings has been announced as the winner.
The eight-year-old’s design will be given to all fun-run finishers on May 5.
When she was told, Erin said: “Oh wow, that is so cool.
“I never thought I’d win, so I’m over the moon.”
Nikki Rees, managing director of ReesLeisure, organiser of the event, said: “Erin’s entry was our overall winner as her medal design was really fun and bright, and promotes exactly what our ABP Fun Run is about – happy, healthy families getting out and running together.
“Erin has won a family entry into the ABP Fun Run and some goodies from our sponsors.”
Kate Warne, community liaison officer for ReesLeisure, said: “This is the third year of this competition and it gets harder to choose a winner each time.
“We had a record-breaking amount of entries, but we loved the footprints featured in Erin’s design as every step counts towards a better physical and mental health, and the colourful stripes were a lovely addition.
“We can’t wait to see the finished medal on race day, it’s a fantastic memento for all the participants.”
Alastair Welch, port director at ABP Southampton, the race’s title sponsor, said: “Erin’s design is fantastic.
“It perfectly captures what the ABP Fun Run is all about.
“ABP Southampton is proud to sponsor the marathon, half marathon, 10K and fun-run, as well as the community group volunteers and we wish Erin and her family all the best taking part.”
Hampshire design company, Worry Less Design, has an ABP Southampton Marathon collection, which will be exhibited at the marathon, which takes place on May 5.
The collection includes two greetings cards, a mug, a water bottle, a medal hanger and framed wall art.
