FILLED with magical moments, Marwell at Christmas is hands down the best yuletide offering I've experienced and, as the mum of a toddler in a festive frenzy for two months every year, I've been to a lot!

A stunning Santa experience which goes above and beyond what most attractions offer, it's enough to make even the most miserly Scrooge feel festive.

As soon as we were greeted by name at the doors of a beautifully decorated Marwell Hall by Jingle and Bell the elves, we knew we were in for something special.

BEFORE FATHER CHRISTMAS

With reindeer shortbread and squash for those on the nice list (the lovely touch of a screen bearing the names of each child on the charming 60 to 80 minute experience), plus a very welcome warm mulled wine for the well-behaved grown ups, we indulged in a little festive singalong before a knock on the door from an elf saw us journey into the world of the Nutcracker.

Young guests then perch on cushions to enjoy a very theatrical telling of the classic Christmas tale from Mother Christmas, an elf and a few puppet friends, as well as songs, dancing and a chat about the toy factory.

Next stop is the craft room where each child decorates their own Christmas plate, aided by a host of snowman, Christmas tree and star shaped props, writes and posts a letter to Father Christmas and waits their turn to meet the big man himself.

THE BIG MAN HIMSELF

As traditionally authentic a Father Christmas as you can imagine seeing is sat in a throne in front of a fireplace as you enter his grotto. Greeting Poppy, aged three, and two-year-old Alexa by name, they were utterly mesmerised. He took the time to chat to both of them about their behaviour this year and what they'd like in their stocking in a month's time if they're good girls between now and then, while a rather talented elf was shooting some superb candid shots, available for purchase at the exit.

Poppy's wrapped gift was a lovely giraffe hobby horse, which she spent the rest of the day riding around the zoo and even took to bed with her while Alexa's was also fantastic quality, a jungle themed Wow aeroplane toy.

In a final reception room, we enjoyed a meeting with Sammy the snow leopard before heading out to enjoy the rest of the adventure.

ANIMAL MAGIC

We were lucky enough to enjoy an extra special few minutes feeding the giraffes and seeing these incredible animals up close, which was an unforgettable experience. But on a dry, crisp and quiet Sunday afternoon, the whole zoo felt like our back garden. All the animals were out to play with close encounters with the penguins, zebra and a playful tiger.

The Marwell at Christmas event runs until Sunday December 24 with tickets remaining for some dates.
