BOAT owners in Hampshire are being warned to stay vigilant after a spate of thefts.
Marine officers have stepped up patrols following a series of dinghy and outboard motor thefts in Lymington between April 23 and Monday.
So far there have been eight incidents which have mostly taken place at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and Bath Road.
In total, five dinghies and seven outboard motors have been stolen.
PC Mark Arnold said: “This is clearly a concern for the boating community in the Lymington area and we take this type of crime seriously.
“We are proud of our strong relationship with our sailing community and I would like to reassure them that we are working closely with the local harbour masters and partner agencies to tackle the issue and protect vessels moored on our waters.”
He added they were keen to speak to residents who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.
PC Arnold said they would also like to take the opportunity to remind boat owners to record all serial and engine numbers as it helps them to reunite stolen items with their rightful owners.
“We would also urge people to mark their items as this helps to deter thieves as these items are more difficult to sell on,” he added.
Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
