If you see Oompa Loompas around the streets of Shirley this March you won't be needing an eye test.
Staff at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Shirley High Street will be dressing up as characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to celebrate World Book Day on March 2.
They have also donated books and cakes to sell in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
Branch manager Adam Kendall said: “Alzheimer’s affects a growing number of people in our community and there is a real need for continued research and support. Our book sale is a chance for us to raise funds and awareness for a cause we care about.”
Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society as its chosen charity for the third successive year after raising more than £28,000 so far.
Staff say it was chosen because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is a family run business which was established in 1938. It has 176 stores in England and Wales, with 1,000 employees.
