THEY’VE set sail on a high spirited adventure following a sentimental band of rogues and their swashbuckling Pirate King.
But the 160-strong cast of the Mayflower Productions Summer Youth Project The Pirates of Penzance took time out of their busy rehearsal schedule to meet a very special member of the team.
Inspired by the theatre’s summer youth project, the Mayflower’s own pirate-themed zany zebra has been named after the hero of the play –- Frederic.
In the musical comedy, which is on stage from Friday to Sunday, Frederic must remain an apprentice to the pirate gang until his 21st birthday, which is all very well...unless you were born on 29th February 29 in a leap year!
With blundering policemen and a very modern Major-General, plus a sensational score of memorable songs, this is a jolly pirate romp of a Gilbert and Sullivan classic with a Broadway twist.
Frederic the Zebra, who is situated just outside the Mayflower box office, is among 150 zebra sculptures made for Marwell’s Zany Zebras project, with 47 pieces dotted around the city centre this summer.
Tickets for The Pirates of PenzanceThe Pirates of Penzance are available from mayflower.org.uk or 023 8071 1811.
The Zany Zebras trail continues in Southampton until September 25.
We want to see you enjoying the trail that is gripping the city and send in a picture of yourselves with your favourite sculpture.
The featured photos will be made into a supplement and the public will vote for their favourite.
The winner will receive a family ticket to Marwell Zoo.
