THOUSANDS of people are expected to head to Southampton when a major Bollywood star performs in a one-off concert.

As part of his latest tour of the UK legend Gurdas Maan will present songs from his latest album when he appears at Southampton Guildhall on April 12.

Event promoter Prithee-pal Singh Roath said it was a “big deal” for him to come to Southampton, adding he was the Bollywood equivalent of “Michael Jackson or Madonna”.

He said: “He’s a global star not just in the Sikh community but in every community in India.”

He said that there could be a chance that some fans will be able to meet the star after the concert which starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are on sale now.

The Punjabi-born star, considered a national treasure in his home state, has released 34 albums since he rose to fame in 1980.
