A HAMPSHIRE insurance company is helping to ensure the next stampede of colourful wild animals to hit Southampton will be a huge success.
Lorica Insurance Brokers is the latest business to support Marwell Zoo’s new public art extravaganza, Zany Zebras, which will see lifesized zebra sculptures pop up in city streets and parks.
It follows on from the fantastic success of the zoo’s Go! Rhinos trail, which attracted thousands of people to Southampton and provided a huge boost to the economy.
For 10 weeks during the summer of 2016, a dazzle of Marwell’s Zany Zebras will gallop through the streets of Southampton, creating a fun, family friendly trail for all to enjoy.
Robert Kluth, from Lorica Insurance Brokers, said: “Not only will this create interest for schools and the local community but also raise much needed funds for Marwell’s great conservation work in Northern Kenya.”
The animal was chosen because Marwell has strong links to the grevy zebra, for which it coordinates the international breeding programme for the breed in captivity.
The zebra sculptures will later be auctioned off to raise money for conservation work in northern Kenya.
Kirstie Mathieson, project manager for Marwell’s Zany Zebras, said: “We thank Lorica Insurance Brokers for their support in sponsoring one of our sculptures, thereby helping us to increase the size and reach of this important project.”
