Sign in to add a tributeI wanted to share a story from September about a lady that my family and I helped. My son, Inderjit Singh Bhatti, found her on the street late at night. She was alone, confused, and clearly frightened. Concerned for her safety, he reached out to me for help.
When we brought her in, she was cold and distressed. We wrapped her in a blanket, gave her a cup of coffee, and some cake to comfort her. We stayed with her, keeping her company and making her feel welcome while we waited for the police to arrive.
A couple of weeks later, I received flowers, though there was no name attached. Then, another week passed and I received a card addressed to "my rescuer." The lady thanked me for the warmth and kindness I had shown her, mentioning the cozy treat and the nice chat we had shared. She left her contact details, and I reached out to her, saying I’d love to visit.
Over the past few months, I had the privilege of visiting this wonderful woman. I soon discovered that she was Edwina Cooke, the former Lady Mayor of Southampton. She was an extraordinary person who shared so many beautiful stories about her life and achievements.
She also asked about me, my job, and my family. She even told me that I was a good mum, which touched me deeply.
Sadly, she passed away recently. As I reflect on the time we spent together, I feel incredibly blessed to have had the chance to connect with her and make memories. She was a truly inspiring and remarkable person, and I am so grateful for the wisdom and advice she shared with me.
You will be greatly missed Edwina x
Thank you for everything 🙂
