FROM bricklayer to superstar DJ in one whirlwind year.
A Southampton favourite for years, Ronnie Spiteri is going global with his music and hopes to switch to DJing full time.
The 27-year-old from Millbrook took a break from a family holiday with his partner and daughter to play his first gig at the legendary Mambo in Ibiza this summer and now has residencies with Ibiza powerhouse promoter Do Not Sleep and Southampton’s own Switch.
One of his tracks is due to be played on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show tomorrow night and Ronnie has tracks released or on their way from Knee Deep In Sound, Mobilee, Do Not Sleep and his own Kenja imprint.
“It’s been crazy really, all of a sudden lots of doors have opened at once,” he told the Daily Echo. “I’m really excited with the progress and hopefully at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, a lot more will come of it.
“The things I’ve done this year have really kick-started my career, but I can’t take my foot off the pedal. I’ve got another album’s worth of music ready to go. Hopefully I can make the music pay as at the moment I’m waking up at 6am during the week and making it in at 6am at the weekend!
Ronnie was brought up immersed in house music and was a regular at illegal raves put on by his Dad from the age of seven. He was inspired by the other DJs, got his own decks at ten and has been DJing ever since.
