NEW FOREST indi stars The Magic Gang who were hailed as "Britain’s best new guitar band" by The Times last year will perform in Southampton later this month.
The Magic Gang established themselves as one of last year’s biggest breaking British guitar bands. Their debut album on YALA! Records charted at #12 on the Official Album Chart and #1 on the vinyl chart, and was heralded with glowing reviews across the board.
Along the way they earned repeated support from Radio 1 as well as nominations for Breakthrough Act at the Q Awards and Best New Artist at the NME Awards. They toured with Wolf Alice en route to selling out the 02 Forum Kentish Town in their own right. They also played festivals including Reading, Leeds, TRNSMT, Tramlines and Truck. The campaign was capped with the release of a duet version of the fan favourite ‘Take Care’ with their friend Jessie Ware.
Currently working on the eagerly anticipated second album, the band will escape the confines of the studio this autumn to play a series of special shows. They’re excited to announce three all-day ‘Life of the Party’ shows in London, Leeds and Birmingham.
Each show will see The Magic Gang headline an intimate multi-room venue alongside a personally curated selection of their favourite rising artists. It’s a celebration of the British music scene, with a line-up that includes the return of Happyness and Brighton-based post-punks Kagoule as well as the likes of Jacob Slater, Dry Cleaning, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and Do Nothing.
The Magic Gang are: drummer Paeris Giles, from Christchurch, frontman Jack Kaye from Bournemouth, bassist Angus (Gus) Taylor from Christchurch and Kristian Smith from New Milton. They said:“Before we inevitably plunge ourselves into the ‘album two’ cycle, we thought we’d like to put on a lovely spread for everyone. Three all-dayers, with some of our favourite new artists playing. We feel very lucky to be joined by everyone on the bill, absolutely no one is to be missed.”
In addition, The Magic Gang commence an intimate underplay tour this month that includes Southampton Heartbreakers on Saturday September 28. They will round this off with festival sets at Glasgow’s Tenement Trail and Wild Paths in Norwich.
