FREEMANTLE COMMON CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY OF HAMPSHIRE
Southampton City Council has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under Section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Freemantle Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works are:
(i) installation of a variety of children's play equipment on a total area of 395 square metres. They consist of:

? In-ground trampoline

? Flat seat swings

? Cradle seat swings

? Basket/Cradle swing

? Balance beam

? Multiplay activity unit

? Grass mats providing a safety surface for the above play equipment

(ii) an 85 metre length of fencing around the play area, with gates, manufactured from galvanised steel and powder coated.

The works will be located in the eastof the common, south ofSpring Road, on the tarmac area of the site of old play area. The new play equipment will be installed in accordance with EN 1176 European standards with the necessary safety surface, grass tiles, to ensure it looks as natural as possible.
The area will be temporarily closed for the duration of the construction period. The temporary fencing proposed is herras fencing during the construction period. It will be replaced by 1.2 metre high permanent fencing, with entrance gates, manufactured from galvanised steel and powder coated.
