WE LOST a true Sporting Legend in Sir Roger Bannister, the first runner to break the four-minute barrier for running the mile.

He was the epitome of the true Corinthian sportsman. He was an amateur who ran for the competition and the sheer thrill of seeing how fast he could go.

Now we read that our greatest Olympian, Sir Bradley Wiggins, supposedly used legal drugs unethically when winning many of his cycling triumphs.

Sadly, modern sport is riddled with drug cheats, some countries actually sponsor doping.

Sport is not now ‘can you beat your opponent’ but ‘can you beat the drug test’.
