With reference to a letter from A Semple, September 29, concerning suggestion by Paul Parfitt (Soapbox, September 28) I felt I had to comment.

We do get enough cyclists riding on the pavements, many with little thought for pedestrians. These, along with the mobility scooter users who often ride at quite a speed, are a worry for us general pedestrians. There should be more restrictions and laws concerning these people.

I really do appreciate how dangerous the roads can be for cyclists BUT some of them put themselves in danger, like riding through red lights - and yes, I have seen that happen on a number of occasions.

I would not like genuine, sensible cyclists to think I am getting at them because I am not and I realise that it is a much healthier way to travel.

Yes there should be more cycle lanes, but who will pay for them? With all the cuts nowadays, cycle lanes would be low on the list. However, I do not think that cyclists should be allowed to ride on pavements, due to the danger to pedestrians which includes children and elderly – what laws should there be and who would enforce them?
