SURELY if there is to be a hard connection between the Isle of Wight and the mainland, I can only repeat that which I have said many times: Build a barrage with turbines incorporated within the structure to generate electricity from the constant tidal movements, thereby getting a return for the country on the investment required.

It is not beyond the ability of the construction industry to design and build the structure within a reasonable period of time and without foreign companies needing to be involved, except perhaps as sub-contractors/suppliers.
It merely needs local authorities to get their heads together and energise government to begin the process.
