SHOLING’S free entry 'family day' game against Brockenhurst on Saturday was rewarded with a bumper 464 crowd.

And it proved to be a sparkling afternoon for the Boatmen in the build-up to Firework Night as they ran out handsome 4-0 winners in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Another brace from top gun Dan Mason was backed by a debut goal for Lee Wort on his return to the club and one from super sub Nick Yeomans.

Owen Roundell headed on Kev Brewster’s free-kick to set up Mason for the 12th-minute opener and Wort doubled the lead on the half-hour when he held up the ball, twisted and rifled low inside Callum Maher’s upright.

The Boatmen’s towering defender Dan Miller was denied by the crossbar on 44 minutes and had another effort hacked off the line in the second half.

But Sholing kept on the pressure and were rewarded when Wort linked up with Mason who slotted the ball between the advancing Maher’s legs for his 19th goal of the season.

Yeomans had the last word, latching onto Wort’s pinpoint pass before drilling his shot across the keeper.

With the game done and dusted, Sholing boss introduced 17-year-old Jean-Luc Ramdin for his first-team debut for the final seven minutes.

Before kick-off group photos had been taken of Sholing's broad spectrum of teams, including the first team, ladies, pan-disability and youth teams, along with managers, coaches, parents and club volunteers.

Sholing chairman Gerry Roberts said: “A massive thank you to everyone involved and all who came along today. It was a fantastic turnout.

“I think everyone had a good time and the boys did the business on the pitch.”

The Boatmen are back on league duty at Bemerton Heath Harlequins tomorrow (Tuesday).
