ANDOVER Town have ended the season with some silverware on the shelf.

The Bluebirds, destined to be pipped to the Sydenhams Premier Division title by Blackfield & Langley, have found some consolation in the Russell Cotes Cup.

Tonight’s final against Sydenhams One underdogs AFC Stoneham was a close-fought affair.

But it was Andover who came out on top thanks to an 81st-minute Harrison Gilkes header from Manny Soetan’s cross.

AFC Portchester, winners of the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup on Saturday, were brought down to earth with a bump.

They lost their last league game of the season 4-1 at Brockenhurst last night.

The Royals trailed to goals by Mitch Speechley-Price and Cass Newton at the break and, although they managed to pull one back at the start of the second half, Will Tickle and Speechley-Price put the game beyond them.

Brock have one last game remaining, at home to champions elect Blackfield on Friday night (7.45pm).

Portchester, meanwhile, still have the Portsmuth Senior Cup final to look forward to on Thursday of next week - and now know their opponents will be Havant & Waterlooville.

The Hawks booked their ticket to Fratton Park by beating Fareham Town 2-0 through brace man James Hayter.

Newport IW are doomed to finish second-to-bottom of the Sydenhams Premier pile following a hefty 7-0 defeat at Horndean.

Two-goal Harry Jackson opened the scoring and Sam Hookey, Miles Everett, Connor Duffin, Liam Kimber and Fuzz Kanjanda joined in.

Baffins Milton Rovers hit back from behind to beat Bemerton Heath Harlequins 3-1 through Blu Boam and Callum Dart (2). Jake Rawkins had given Heath the lead.

Fawley AFC, the beaten Sydenhams League Cup finalists, finished the season with a flourish.

They clocked up their fifth league win on the bounce, beating Verwood Town 4-1 in Division One through Ollie Bradley, Ben Bolton and Ben Murphy (2).

Blackfield & Langley tomorrow face Saints U23s in the Southampton Senior Cup final at St Mary's (Wednesday, 7.30pm).
