HAMWORTHY United have joined Blackfield & Langley on 62 points in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Brendon King’s Hammers found it tough going against Bournemouth Poppies on a boggy pitch at Victoria Park last night, but two set-piece goals clinched them a 2-0 victory.

It extended the County Ground outfit’s unbeaten league run to five games.

Hamworthy broke the deadlock after 68 minutes when Billy Walker headed in a Darren Watts corner.

And it was from another Watts dead-ball delivery that striker Dan Cann’s flick ended up in the back of the net despite an attempted clearance from a home defender.

Louis Coulson had gone the closest for Poppies when the score was still 0-0.

Hamworthy, who head for Newport IW on Saturday, have played five games more than both second-placed Blackfield and fourth-placed AFC Portchester who are ten points behind them.

The rest of last night's programme was a washout.
