BLACKFIELD & Langley added yet another clean sheet to their collection in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Hamworthy United.

The Watersiders boast a water-tight defence, having achieved shut-outs in six of their last seven league and cup outings.

Hamworthy, who had begun the afternoon in third spot, went into the match off the back of a surprise 2-1 win at league leaders Andover Town.

But it was second-placed Blackfield who emerged victorious thanks to a first-half Liam Robinson penalty and Rudy Plummer’s eighth goal of the season.

The referee pointed to the spot when Sami Makhloufi's tricky footwork drew a foul inside the box. Robinson smashed home from 12 yards and thought he'd scored again before half-time, but the 'goal' was disallowed.

With Sam Poole exceptional in defence, Blackfield nullified Hamworthy's threat from set-pieces and finally made the points safe when Plummer made a great run through the channel and got a shot away which rolled through 'keeper Nick Jones's legs.

"It was a bit of a gaffe, but Nick Jones made four or five good saves," said Blackfield co-assistant Chris Farrell.

"I thought we were always in control of the game and we must have missed half a dozen one-on-ones."

The win keeps Glenn Howes’ men ten points adrift of Andover having played one game fewer.

"It was quite comfortable really, but it was just important we got the result because Andover won. We have to at least match their results," said Farrell.

Weather permitting, that game in hand will be played at Gang Warily tomorrow evening (Tuesday, 7.45pm) when 14th-placed Brockenhurst come calling.

Blackfield may well hand a debut to new 'loan' signing Sean Stewart, a big, strong central midfielder from Weymouth.

They are also hopeful of welcoming back Joey Byrne, Franklyn Clarke and Nimes Pina who all missed the Hamworthy trip.
