TEAM Solent boss James Taylor had lamented his team’s wastefulness in front of goal in their FA Vase exit at Bradford Town.

But there no such grumbles at Test Park on Saturday as the Students romped to a 7-2 victory over Shaftesbury in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Solent deservedly took the lead when John Wallace teed up Tyrell Mitford to find the bottom corner and Wallace was the architect of the Students’ second too, this time supplying the pass for Hisham Kasimu to bury.

Chad Collins, making his debut in goal for the Students, was beaten by Aaron Lane-Leney as Shaftesbury pulled it back to 2-1 at half-time and, for while, an equaliser looked on the cards.

But Solent soon found their rhythm again and didn’t look back once Obeng had netted their third following a slick passing move involving midfield pair Julian Stahler and Jamal Wiseman.

Yet another Wallace assist found Mitford whose low, angled shot made it 4-1 before Obeng struck again, this time from Wiseman’s pass.

Obeng then turned provider, playing through Ryan Dacres-Smith for his first goal of the season.

Shaftesbury sub Chaz Browne made it 6-2, but fittingly it was the Students who had the last word, Kasimu breezing into the box from the left and cleverly feigning to cross before slotting the ball inside the near post.

The result puts Solent into 17th place, continuing their march towards mid-table respectability.

*Alresford Town kept their 12th clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 win at Brockenhurst - Chris Mason bagging the only goal.

Admitting it was far from easy, Magpies boss Rich Luffman tweeted: "I always wonder how Brockenhurst don't compete at the very top end as every time we play them they give us a torrid time. We nullified their main threat today in (Mark) Barker and in my opinion deserved the win.

"That's another clean sheet and a very welcome three points."

The victory completed a highly satisfying week for fourth-placed Alresford.

Three days earlier they had sensationally knocked Southern League visitors Hartley Wintney out of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup, 2-1, courtesy of last-gasp goals from Tom Richards and Mason and a trio of top-drawer saves by Dan Kempson.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) Alresford visit Hamble Club in the Sydenhams League Cup third round, pitting the winners away to Fawley AFC in the quarter-finals.
