THE mystery punter from Basingstoke who won £1million at the races is aiming to land another huge jackpot.

The 40-year-old, who does not want to be named, has staked a £10,000 each way bet on France winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, at odds of 25-1.

If France go all the way and lift the trophy, the punter will collect £395,000 – and he will pick up £135,000 if they finish as runners-up.

As reported last week, the tipster, who works in finance, put a total of £5,400 on an accumulator bet at Sandown Park, in Surrey.

He watched on with his friends as all six of his bets came in – winning £1million from Coral through his multiple Lucky 63 bet.

David Sevens, from Corals, said: “The customer became our biggest-ever winner when landing the remarkable £1million jackpot, and having picked all six winners at Sandown on May 29, he is now attempting to add to his fortune by backing France for glory in Brazil.

“The host nation and Argentina are favourites to win the World Cup, but with the form this punter is in, we are definitely not writing off the French now, and will be watching their progress with interest – and a few nerves!”

The bookmaker has priced France at 25-1 to win, along with England and Portugal. Brazil are the favourites at 3-1, followed by Argentina, Germany, Spain and Belgium.

France have been drawn in Group E in Brazil, along with Ecuador, Switzerland and Honduras.

If they win the group, they are likely to face Bosnia-Herzegovina or Nigeria in the round of 16, while Germany and Brazil could be opponents in the quarter and semi-finals respectively.

France have been in good form in friendly fixtures before the World Cup beating Jamaica 8-0, Norway 4-0 and drawing with Paraguay.

The World Cup starts at 9pm today when host nation Brazil play Croatia in Sao Paulo.
