ANDY Hessenthaler won his first game as manager of Eastleigh with a much-needed 2-1 comeback victory at sixth-placed Dagenham & Redbridge in the Vanarama National League.

Spitfires had won once in ten games before Richard Hill decided to hand managerial duties over to former Leyton Orient boss Hessenthaler five days ago to concentrate on director of football duties.

The 52-year-old had been working under Hill as assistant before stepping up and leading them to a win at the Daggers.

Michael Cheek gave the hosts the lead on 16 minutes before Chris Zebroski levelled just past the half hour mark for Easteigh.

Paul McCallum then continued his impressive recent scoring run, netting his fourth goal in two league games - having netted a hat-trick in a 4-4 draw with Bromley - as he struck the winner on the hour mark.
