AFC TOTTON have their fingers tightly crossed that goalkeeper Shane Murphy will be fit for the Easter Holiday programme.

The former Dorchester stopper is the only senior keeper in the Stags’ ranks and will be sorely missed if he is unable to feature in Saturday's trip to Yate Town and Monday’s big Evo-Stik South West derby at home to Winchester City (3pm).

Murphy was hurt trying to prevent the third goal in Totton’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at in-form Cirencester Town last weekend.

He bravely played on in discomfort but left Gloucestershire with his arm in a sling.

Speaking ahead of training tonight, manager Louis Langdown said: “We think he has hyperextended his elbow and, once you’ve done that, there’s a numbness there.

“Shane’s not had a ball smashed at him yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“In my head I thought we’d be able to get a loanee keeper in, but apparently we can’t sign anyone now (after the transfer deadline), so we’ve got what we’ve got.

“If Shane’s not fit, we’ll throw the gloves down and see who picks them up first.

“It’ll probably be Chuggy (defender Callum Chugg) – he wants to play everywhere,” he laughed.

Aldershot loanee midfielder/ left-back Matt Bozier is unlikely to feature after bowing out injured at half-time at Cirencester and, like Murphy, striker Tony Lee is a major doubt for the eighth-placed Stags.

Lee, who had a spell out with an ankle injury earlier in the season, aggravated it again last week as he smashed a shot against the post.

“Tony didn’t train on Tuesday.

He’s walking, but it’s going to be touch and go - and probably more touch than go!” said Langdown.

“He’ll see the doctor, but if there is any chance of him playing this weekend it will probably be the Winchester game rather than tomorrow.”

On the plus side Aldershot loanee defender Jack Barker should be back available along with left-back Ian Oliver, who recently became a dad, and midfielder Robin Nicholls who missed the Cirencester trip through illness.

“We’ve got enough players, but we might have to play them in different places,” Langdown added.

“(Defender) Dave Allen’s played up front and in midfield for us, so it’s not like we’re not used to having a makeshift side.

“If Robin Nicholls is back, that would allow us to push Charlie Gunson up front, and Jack Masterton could go in midfield if Ian Oliver returns, so we’ve got options.”

*Troubled Gosport Borough have reportedly been given a dissolution order by Companies House after failing to submit accounts made up to April 28, 2016.

The Evo-Stik South Premier basement club have two months to submit these accounts or risk being ‘struck off ’ as a business.
