AFC TOTTON’S 0-0 draw at Kidlington demonstrated that Louis Langdown’s young Stags are learning lessons fast in the Evo-Stik South West.

Other than Swindon Supermarine, who have played one game fewer, Totton boast the best defensive record in the league with just 13 goals conceded in as many outings.

Defences were well on top a Yarnton Road, but the Stags came close to nicking all three points when winger Curtis Young hit the outside of the woodwork late on.

“Both Curtis and Tony Lee had opportunities to score and it would have been great if we’d nicked it at the end, but it was a really good away point,” said Totton boss Louis Langdown.

“Kidlington are a strong outfit who have beaten Swindon, Evesham and Winchester City, twice, and this was as resolute a performance from us as you can get.

“I can’t recall Shane Murphy having a save to make.

“I was really calm watching the game and didn’t ever think we were in trouble.

“Swindon are the only team who have conceded less than us and I’m pleased for the lads because it means they’re organised and willing to work for each other and put bodies on the line to make sure we don’t concede.

“It shows how far we’ve come in a year that we are able to go to places like that and get a point, particularly as we had Callum Chugg and Charlie Gunson suspended.”

Totton face a stern test on Tuesday (7.45pm) at home to Premier Division promotion chasers Weymouth in the BigFreeBet.com Challenge Cup.

It kicks off a run of three successive home matches for Langdown’s men who host Mangotsfield United in the league on Saturday, followed by Christchurch next Tuesday in the Russell Cotes Cup.
