THERE were celebrations both on and off the pitch for Easton and Martyr Worthy Cricket Club.

Not only did the club mark its 70th birthday helped by a visit from Hampshire’s Jimmy Adams, but a win for their 2nd XI team against Oakley saw an historic partnership from two teenage brothers.

Easton were 43 for 4 off 15 overs when 16-year-old Arthur Lee, batting at No 5, was joined by his 14-year-old brother Spencer at No 6.

Outstanding The pair compiled an outstanding partnership of 194 for the fifth wicket with Arthur smashing eight sixes and 11 fours, mostly down the wicket, in an outstanding knock of 122 and Spencer an elegant 59 including five fours.

This is probably the best partnership by two brothers in the history of the club.

Ed Wylde and Ben Stanbrough added late runs and Easton’s innings finished on 239 for 6.

Evergreen Trevor Yeates and Wylde opened the bowling with Wylde taking the first two wickets to fall, both clean bowled.

Will Wickham, 14, pulled off a spectacular catch to give Spencer Lee his first wicket and, in his next over, Spencer clean bowled another batsman.

With Yeates returning figures of 9.4-1-45-6, Wylde 6-0-24-2 and Spencer Lee 3-0-10-2, Oakley were bowled out for 89.

The club also had another great performance from a teenager with 15-year-old bowler Sky Mitchell taking 5-23 runs for the 3rd XI in their narrow defeat to Oakmount.

Spectators were also treated to a fast-paced 20/20 game featuring mixed teams of club veterans, current seniors and upcoming juniors.
