Southampton boxing fans are being offered once last chance to see Joe Pigford in action on their doorstep before the super welterweight steps up to title level.

Pigford is the star attraction of promoter Steve Bendall’s show at Central Hall in Southampton on Saturday night as he negotiates an eight-round contest.

Pigford, now living in Manchester and training under Ricky Hatton, has knuckled down and is determined to make the most of his talent.

His pro record of a perfect 15 wins with 14 knockouts underlines his potential, and Bendall, who fought for, and won, various titles throughout his career, believes this is the final stepping stone for Pigford.

He said: “The kid will get a title shot very soon. I have heard about it and I think it is just around the corner once he has got this fight out of the way.

“I think Joe will go a long way in this sport.

“Joining up with Ricky Hatton and moving up to Manchester has been important for him because he has got away from all the distractions and is living the life you need to lead in order to win titles and get to the top.

“With the power he possesses he can knock anyone out.

“As you move up through the levels and the better the calibre of fighter you face then the harder it gets to catch them with that power, but if he hits anyone then they are getting knocked out.

“And when you have that kind of power then you should go a long way, and I think Joe will.”

Also featuring on an exciting looking card are the likes of Lee Cutler, Bryce Goodridge and Jarek Prusak.

Doors open 5.30pm with boxing starting at 6.30pm. Tickets are £40 standard and £70 ringside with a VIP bar and available from 07982 291293.
