Southampton based boxer Ivy-Jane Smith notched up another important win on her string of victories by beating Scottish Champion Victoria Glover in Glasgow.
England international Smith, has defeated all boxers at her weight in England, as well as at weights above and below, and is now having to travel further afield.
Smith, a European Championships bronze medalist, proved too strong for Glover.
Her coach, Heart of Portsmouth’s ‘Q’ Shillingford, said: “Glover was a strong, come forward boxer with a brave heart, relentless with her attacks.
“But Smith set off determined to win, landing heavily in the first round and setting a phenomenal pace. In the second round, Smith’s speed and fitness took over with clever footwork and boxing skill whilst landing cleanly to increase her score.
“In the third round and after another tactical change Smith then powered home to victory throwing fast and hurtful combinations at blistering speed to head and body.
“This secured the points win against a very experienced opponent.
“It was a long way to go for a bout (seven hours each way) but was well worth it. Smith was fit, strong and listened to what she was told, she has worked hard in the gym and come on so well over the last few months. Her performance was perfect.
Smith’s commitment and dedication cannot be faltered. By travelling all that way giving away experience and home town advantage.
Smith and several members of Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy are now busy training for the England Boxing Youth Championships 2016, which kick off mid-January.
