Southampton ABC put on a Christmas cracker of a show as they gave eight of their own fighters a chance to shine.

Finn Dollery was first up for Southampton ABC in a skills contest against Heart of Portsmouth ABC boxer Lewis Matthews.

Dollery boxed well and will now be competing for real when he turns 11 in January.

There were wins for Brandon Adams, Luke Tobitt, Vinny Mandir and Shahir Hashemi.

Adams, 13, boxed superbly in only his third bout, picking his punches nicely and out working Moulescoumbe ABC fighter Blaise Cullen to win a unanimous decision.

Tobitt beat Kieran Bevan (Premier ABC) for the second time in three weeks.

The first bout in Wales was very close with Tobitt winning a split decision, but this time it was more one sided as the Southampton youngster landed straight right hands against his southpaw opponent to run out a comfortable winner by unanimous decision

Mandir, 14, was pure class, showing maturity beyond his years to beat Hasting ABC boxer George Filkins on points.

Filkins was as tough as they come but Mandir picked his shots brilliantly.

It went to a split decision but Mandir was rightfully awarded the verdict.

Hashemi defeated Connor O’Carrol (Littlehampton ABC) by unanimous points.

The bout was very scrappy and both lads were landing big shots but Hashemi’s cleaner shots and higher work rate got him the nod.

There were losses for Billy Goddard, Harry Hillier and Isaac Fergus.

Goddard gave it everything against Mole Valley boxer Danny Boardman in a really skilful contest between two cracking little boxers with the latter winning by unanimous points.

Hillier struggled to get going in the first two rounds against Jay Cooper (Moneyfields ABC), unable to get to grips with a southpaw style.

Although Hillier came on strong and had a better last round Cooper deservedly won a split decision.

Fergus boxed really well against the tall, rangy and awkward Moneyfield ABC boxer Joel Forte in a cracking contest which was desperately close.

As they don’t do draws in amateur boxing the judges had to pick a winner and Forte got it on a split decision.

Southampton ABC head coach, Gary White, said: “It was a cracking show brilliantly matched by Leigh Medway and Kenny Smart with all 15 bouts well contested and not one stoppage or standing counts.

“We would like to thank Hedge End Club for letting us use the venue and all the clubs who travelled to the show, particularly Gemini ABC from Liverpool and Premier ABC from Swansea.

“We would also like to thank Darren Adams and Sons roofing and the Tew Bros for their continued support in sponsoring us, the Bitterne Pub for kindly sponsoring a contest and also Nicky McPhail of RLM Fitness who kindly donated a belt to the best Southampton boxer on the night.

“It was a close run thing but Matty Tew picked Brandon Adams who was delighted to win the belt which is now his to keep.”
