Southampton boxing hopeful Joe Pigford is celebrating signing two massive deals in the space of just a few days.

The 21-year-old light-middleweight has agreed a deal with promoter Franks Warren’s Queensbury Promotions, meaning he is in line to be fast-tracked towards title success, starting with a fight at the SSE Arena, Wembley, on Saturday, May 9, live on BoxNation.

On top of that he has also bagged a first sponsorship deal with LSC Facades.

Pigford has enjoyed a flying start to his pro career with six stoppages in his seven fights.

He has now signed a promotional contract with Queensberry Promotions that sees the hammer-fisted youngster join top undefeated 154lb talents: Liam Smith, the new WBO Intercontinental champion, Commonwealth champion Liam Williams, plus Joe Selkirk, Lloyd Ellett and Gary Corcoran, under the same banner.

He will face Simone Lucas in a four-round contest at the SSE Arena and aims to show he’s championship material as he looks to target domestic titles before working his way up the world scene.

Pigford said: “It’s a real honour to join Frank Warren at Queensberry Promotions and I’m looking forward to having my first fight for them at the SSE Arena, Wembley, with an exciting showing and moving on up towards my first title.

“Frank is the biggest promoter in the country and with the knowledge and experience he’ll get me to where I want to be in my career and to achieve my dreams.

“The light-middleweight division in Britain is looking really good right now and I’ve arrived at just the right time. Liam Smith and Liam Williams are the top guys, and behind them are Selkirk, Ellett and Corcoran coming through. They’re good names but I believe that I’ll be ready to mix with any of them in a few more fights.

“The name of the game now is to keep active and keep the momentum going, I’ve got that now I’ve signed with Queensberry and it will be onwards and upwards for me.”

The deal with LSC is also great news for Pigford with the company’s managing director, Dorian Lawrence, having been impressed with the young fighter.

“The first time I met Joe I was struck by his professional attitude and humility,” said Lawrence.

“A lot of guys at his age can let their celebrity go to their heads but Joe is incredibly balanced and determined to succeed. I have never seen anyone work at their training as hard as him. “He has the qualities as an individual that I treasure in those people who work for me at LSC. When I was given the opportunity to help Joe financially I leapt at the chance.”

Tickets for Pigford’s fight, priced at £40, £50, £75, £100 and £200 are available from Eventim on 0844 249 1000 or www.eventim.co.uk and SSE Arena, Wembley, on 0844 815 0815 or www.ssearena.co.uk (Disabled Line 0208 782 5629).
