SOUTHAMPTON AC duo Alex Teuten and Mo Mahamed played their part as Great Britain topped the medal table at the European Cross-Country Championships in Samorin, Slovakia.
The team in red, white and blue returned home with a veritable treasure trove of five gold medals and four bronze.
University of Southampton student Teuten, celebrating his first Great Britain vest, finished in 38th spot as the senior men picked up team bronze.
Teuten’s GB teammate Andy Butchart (Central AC) claimed the individual bronze medal, having taken on the early pace alongside Swansea’s Dewi Griffiths, who sadly had to withdraw due to cramp.
Ben Connor (Stockport) was sixth, Tom Lancashire (Bolton) 26th, 25-year-old Teuten (Southampton) 38th and Sam Stabler (Leicester) 45th.
Britain’s under-23 men spoke beforehand about targeting the team bronze - and it was mission accomplished after some fine performances from the sextet.
Southampton’s Mahamed, last year’s under-20 bronze medallist, was first across the line in 12th spot, adapting well to the step up in age category.
Following in his wake were Chris Olley (Tonbridge) in 13th, Patrick Dever (Preston) in 16th, Joe Steward (East Cheshire) 25th, Jack Rowe (Aldershot, Farnham & District) 31st and Dan Jarvis (Liverpool) 40th.
