FORMER Watford striker Troy Deeney was full of praise and reflection as he named two Saints players in his Premier League team of the week.

Deeney, who scored 47 goals in the top-flight, credited Aaron Ramsdale and Taylor Harwood-Bellis for their part in Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton.

Ramsdale made five saves to help preserve a first clean sheet of the season while defender Harwood-Bellis was involved in the winning goal.

Deeney selects his Premier League team of the week each week for BBC Sport and has picked Saints players for the first time this campaign.

On Ramsdale, he said: "I thought he made a mistake leaving Arsenal to go to Southampton but I understand the logic behind it.

"I don't think he'll end up with many clean sheets and he rode his luck a few times against Everton - but probably made Southampton's save of the season.

"That was from Michael Keane's header which would have changed the focus of the match. He was a big part in why they won the game."

Assessing Harwood-Bellis, Deeney added: "He's had a tough time this season getting to grips with the Premier League but he was really good against Everton.

"He was brave on the ball and defending when he needed to. Southampton's players have to realise that you have to dig in at times - and he epitomised that."

Ramsdale and Harwood-Bellis are joined by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur's Dominic Solanke and AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo.

Saints are looking to follow up their first win of the league season when they visit bottom-placed Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, November 9 (3pm).
