WITH the Championship playoffs due to get underway this week Saints, Leeds United, West Brom and Norwich City are all preparing themselves for their semi-finals.

As a club, Southampton only have one experience of the play-offs back in 2007 when they were beaten by Derby County in the Championship semi-final.

But who has the most playoff experience - across EFL and Scottish football - among the four squads participating?

And will it make a difference over the next 10 days?

We have taken a look through the squads to see who has the upper hand when it comes to playoff appearances at this crucial stage of the campaign.

Southampton

Playoff appearances in squad: 21

Saints boss Russell Martin captained Norwich City to Championship playoff glory during the 2014-15 season.

Current captain Jack Stephens played all three games of Swindon Town's 2014-15 League One play-off run but he was ultimately unable to take his on-loan side into the Championship, losing 4-0 to Preston North End in the final.

Joe Aribo has appeared in five playoff games with Charlton Athletic, achieving promotion from League One in 2019. He scored in the Addicks' 2-1 semi-final first-leg win over Doncaster Rovers.

Che Adams scored during his three minutes on the pitch in Sheffield United's dramatic 5-5 draw with Swindon Town. However, it was not enough to make the League One final.

Ross Stewart helped his Alloa Athletic team achieve promotion to the Scottish Championship in 2017-18 and he also scored three times for Sunderland over two campaigns.

Defenders Ryan Manning and James Bree have also tasted play-off action with Swansea City and Luton Town.

Leeds United

Playoff appearances in squad: 17

Leeds United were involved in a dramatic play-off semi-final defeat to Frank Lampard's Derby County in 2018-19. Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, and Jamie Shackleton all took part.

Bamford has featured in seven games in all including two final defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City, while he was at Derby County and Middlesbrough.

Joe Gelhardt was on loan at Sunderland during their semi-final loss to Luton Town last season.

Connor Roberts has played in four matches for Swansea City at this time of year with three of those coming against Brentford.

West Bromwich Albion

Playoff appearances in squad: 42

A total of 13 members of West Brom's squad have past playoff experience to call upon which makes Sunday's semi-final with Saints all the more intriguing.

Semi Ajayi had success in the League One playoff with Rotherham United in 2018, playing a crucial role in the final, while former Portsmouth man Jed Wallace won the League One playoff in 2017 with Millwall.

Winger Matt Phillips produced an assist at Wembley in 2012 with Blackpool against West Ham United but it was not enough to earn promotion.

Nathaniel Chalobah was on loan at Watford when they were denied by Crystal Palace's Kevin Phillips penalty at Wembley in 2013.

John Swift came unstuck in the final for Reading against Huddersfield in 2017, while Pipa lost to Nottingham Forest for Huddersfield in 2022.
