SOUTHAMPTON suffered their second 5-0 defeat of the season on Tuesday evening as they were torn apart by Leicester City.

The Foxes scored four second half goals against a Saints side that fell apart when they needed a statement performance ahead of the playoffs.

Manager Russell Martin was scathing in his post-match press conference, describing the performance as "pathetic."

Here is how Southampton fans have reacted to the heavy defeat on social media...

@CricketDaily20 wrote: "We approached the game negatively from the start, with Leicester all over us from minute one. If we'd have been a bit more positive, maybe had a shot on goal, we might have reaped a few more rewards."

@gregvul posted: "They don't have the bottle, unfortunately. When faced with adversity they capitulate."

Tom Hillier added: "Not sure you can describe any aspect of a performance as ‘so good and so on top’ when you have 66% possession and no shots on target."

@ryanrd1905 said: "Even if we get past the playoffs it shows we’d be straight back down again, there’s no backbone in this team."

@germanspeakorg tweeted: "The playoffs will have a different feel, they are pressure games and you need some luck as well. Not sure I see this team recovering from that tonight. When you know you have to win to keep faint hopes alive and capitulate like that, that's hugely worrying."

@Saintadam1981 insisted: "Just isn’t about the fact we lost tonight. That was an absolute embarrassment which takes the whole fanbase's morale right down to the gutter. There should never, ever be a lack of effort from any player who is backed by over 3000 travelling fans. They’ve let them down big time."
