FLYNN Downes and Che Adams have been named in the Championship team of the week after their starring roles in Saturday's 3-1 win at Swansea City.

Manager Russell Martin has also been recognised for the win that saw Saints dominate the Welsh side for most of the game.

Adams opened the scoring inside six minutes when he put home a rebound from Stuart Armstrong's shot to set Saints on their way to victory.

After Swansea had pulled a goal back to make it 2-1, Downes restored the two-goal advantage when his low strike from range nestled in the bottom corner.

Downes, who spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Swansea, decided to show respect to his former club by not celebrating - despite it being his first goal for Saints.

It could have been an even more dominant scoreline with Martin's side managing 17 shots in the first half - more than their average of 15.7 a game in the Championship.
