SAINTS are reportedly among English clubs 'keen' on Villarreal's former Championship star Ben Brereton Diaz.
The Chilean international signed for the Spanish outfit in the summer but has only made two La Liga starts for his new club.
Stoke-on-Trent-born Brereton Diaz, 24, could become available on loan in January after two prolific seasons in the Championship prior to his move.
Brereton Diaz netted 36 goals in his last 80 league appearances for Blackburn Rovers as they competed in the top half of the division.
TEAMTalk report that Saints face potential competition from Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Burnley as Villarreal prepare to sanction a loan exit.
They add that Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion are also possible suitors and could contend with Saints for his signature.
It has been reported that one of Brereton Diaz's struggles in Spain has been to adapt to Villarreal's possession-based style.
Everton had previously been linked to Brereton Diaz, who has scored seven goals in 21 appearances for his South American nation.
