SAINTS striker Che Adams labelled playing for Scotland as “amazing”, with the Tartan Army now qualified for Euro 2024.
It means Scotland will compete at back-to-back European Championships when they take to the turf in Germany next June.
Adams, 27, who was given his international debut by current boss Steve Clarke in 2021, has only played a bit-part role in qualifying.
Adams started in 3-0 wins home and away to Cyprus as well as coming off the bench as a late substitute against Spain last week.
He was a key man in Scotland’s World Cup qualifying campaign, where they fell short in the playoffs despite winning nine out of 10 group matches.
Adams, speaking to the Daily Echo ahead of the October international break, said: “It’s been amazing.
“We’ve got a great team, a lot are playing high up as well. It’s often about getting a group of hard-working, honest, and open players.
“You can see on the pitch how hard everyone is working for each other and it’s all credit to the manager really.”
Adams picked up his 23rd cap, since collecting two more, in an atmospheric clash with England at Hampden Park last month.
The two old enemies met for the first time since a 0-0 draw at Wembley in the last Euros, with Gareth Southgate’s side coming out 3-1 winners.
He added: “The atmosphere was amazing. There was a lot of pressure on it and it’s much more than a friendly, isn’t it?
“They were too good for us on the night but hopefully we will play them again soon. We had Spain coming up and that was the more important one.”
Adams is now embroiled in a battle to claim back his starting position at Saints, with competition from Charly Alcaraz and the returning Ross Stewart to come.
Offered a contract extension by the club this summer, he is still yet to commit his future and could even transfer away in January.
However, he insists he is taking a leadership role on, stating: “It’s down to being selfless to help the younger boys, like Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Sam Edozie and players like that.
“You can tell them and make sure they know what it takes to be working hard, to be brave in the Championship – you never know when you’ll chance will come.”
