SOUTHERN Vipers captain Georgia Adams praised the resilience shown by her teammates this summer after securing the second half of an unprecedented domestic double at the weekend.

The all-rounder played a key role in the Vipers’ Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy final win on Sunday, helping her team recover from 4-2 against The Blaze.

She contributed a vital 96-run third wicket stand with Georgia Elwiss, having earlier taken two wickets as the Vipers’ bowling attack restricted their opponents to just 200.

Adams’ 39 from 62 balls and Elwiss’ 50 from 69 helped steady the nerves after the early loss of two important wickets and they were backed up by an equally impressive unbeaten 57 from Emily Windsor as the Vipers chased down The Blaze’s target to win by five wickets.

But rather than focus on personal success, Adams has heaped praise on her teammates following Sunday’s double-clinching win.

“Nothing ever ceases to amaze me about this squad,” she said shortly after being presented with the trophy. “This season has been the most memorable yet.

“I say every year I don’t think we can have a better season and somehow, we pull it out of the bag. Last year it (the double) felt like something we were really fixated on.

“This year it was not really something which has been spoken about too much. Going into the last round of games in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy it felt a long way off.

“We weren’t even thinking about lifting the trophy; it was just a case of taking it game by game and playing each game like it was a final.

“To make the final was big in itself because players have shown a lot of grit and determination throughout the season. It was a phenomenal win and a real team effort.”

Freya Kemp was also unbeaten at the end having supported Windsor’s quickfire half century with a mature innings of 32 from 35.

It capped an amazing season for The Vipers, who had already made it back-to-back 20-over titles after clinching the Charlotte Edwards Cup earlier in the campaign.

Sunday’s win means The Ageas Bowl-based team have also now won the 50-over Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy in three of the last four seasons.

Adams’ form across both competitions has been stunning. As well as leading her team to the domestic double she has also won three coveted individual awards.

Adams added the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Player of the Year and PCA Women’s Domestic Overall MVP to the Charlotte Edwards Cup Player of the Year she received back in June

Adams was named Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Player of the Year after scoring 546 runs at an average of 49.63 and taking 20 wickets at 24.15 runs.

She has benefited hugely from becoming an established all-rounder and shifting to three in the batting line-up, and will now link up with The Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL.

Presumably amid the team celebrations, Adams may find some time to reflect on what has been a stellar season personally, culminating in Sunday’s important stint at the crease?

As always, her teammates are never far from her thoughts. “I am incredibly proud. I didn’t think the season would pan out like this. All-rounder life has been quite nice.

“Taking the pressure off my batting a little bit has freed me up. I’ve enjoyed batting at three, and the team make it easy for me to play the way I want to play. I couldn’t do it without them.”
