SAINTS have been named amongst the clubs reportedly interested in Bristol City defender Zak Vyner.

The 26 year old centre-back made 45 league appearances for the Robins last season as they finished 14th in the Championship.

However, Vyner is yet to sign a contract extension with the Ashton Gate club, which has reportedly piqued the attention of several clubs.

Bristol Live are reporting that recently promoted Premier League side Luton Town, Southampton and Rangers are among the clubs considering a move for the defender this summer.

Vyner is a graduate of Bristol City's academy and has played every minute for Nigel Pearson's side so far this term.

If signed, the former Plymouth Argyle loanee would be competing with Jack Stephens, Jan Bednarek, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Lyanco for a starting berth under Russell Martin.

With newcomer Shea Charles also capable of playing in the back line, Martin has previously admitted that the club don't plan to target a new defensive addition unless another player leaves.

He said: “We had six centre-halves when we came in and we are never going to play a back-six, so we don’t need that many.

“Don’t quote me on that, though, because a time may come at the end of the season we need to!

“We’ll have to wait and see now because if somebody goes out, we will have to replace them. As it stands, we have four and that’s a good number – although one is not fit.

“Hopefully then you have one or two exciting youngsters around that but we will have to see. Otherwise, we are where we are currently.”
