FORMER England internationals make up many of the names with the shortest odds to be Saints manager on the first day of the 2023-24 league season.

Liverpool legend and former Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard at 6/1 is the current favourite at the bookies while Wayne Rooney, DC United manager, is at 8/1.

Current Saints manager Ruben Selles (9/1) is only third favourite to still be in charge at St Mary’s next season with the side facing relegation from the Premier League into the Championship.

Saints have picked up just nine points in his 13 games as boss and they are winless in 10 following Monday’s fatal defeat at Nottingham Forest – leaving them eight points adrift with three games left.

Jesse Marsch, who rejected the job after negotiations before Selles was appointed in February, is still among the front-runners and is priced at 10/1.

Chris Wilder comes in at 12/1 after a short spell as Watford manager this season while former Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur man Nuno Espirito Santo shares the same price.

Chelsea’s current interim Frank Lampard and Millwall’s Gary Rowett are both at 16/1, with the latter’s side missing out on Championship playoffs on the final day of the campaign this week.

Ivan Juric, Torino manager, also shares 16/1, while other names such as Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, Rafa Benitez and even former boss Ralph Hasenhuttl are mooted at higher prices.
