SAINTS came from behind to draw 1-1 with Tottenham and earn an FA Cup fourth-round replay at White Hart Lane.
Here are five things we learned from the game:
1. Sofiane Boufal to the rescue:
Boufal arrived inside the box in the nick of time to smash home Saints’ 87th minute equaliser.
It’s the Moroccan’s first goal since he returned to St Mary’s in the summer after his loan spell in Spain.
And after recovering from his toe injury, he’ll be looking to force his way into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s starting XI.
2. Kevin Danso had a tough afternoon:
It’s worth noting that summer signing Danso was playing out of position at right back.
But his performance made it clear that Ralph Hasenhuttl is going to miss Cedric more than he might have first thought.
It also showed why getting a defender in on loan until the end of the season could be pivotal to plugging the gap.
3. Saints had their chances to win the match:
Although Spurs dominated the first half, Danny Ings had a couple of great opportunities after the break to bag a win.
The striker will be disappointed with himself that he didn’t manage to guide his unmarked header past Hugo Lloris on the Tottenham net.
However, he made amends for that miss by spotting Boufal’s run to create the equaliser.
4. It won’t be the winter break Hasenhuttl was hoping for:
Saints boss Hasenhuttl has openly criticised the decision to hold a replay during what is supposed to be the club’s winter break.
It’s the first time the Premier League have introduced it, but his side will now have to travel to White Hart Lane instead.
5. Stuart Armstrong hobbling off could be a cause for concern:
Armstrong has played an instrumental part in Saints’ recent run of form.
So, for the Scottish international to limp off in the first half, is a worry for the club.
But it could also mean the Moussa Djenepo or Boufal are given a run in the side.
