SHEFFIELD United are sweating over the fitness of duo David McGoldrick and Callum Robinson ahead of their match with Saints on Saturday.

McGoldrick, who used to play for the St Mary’s outfit, netted in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland in Dublin.

But the striker has been withdrawn from the squad and will return to Sheffield, as opposed to playing against Bulgaria.

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy confirmed that McGoldrick arrived at the national side’s training camp already nursing a shoulder injury.

Robinson, on the other hand, turned up fully fit, only to feel a tweak in his hamstring during the second half of their Euro 2020 qualifier.

McCarthy said: “David came into camp with a shoulder injury but was determined to play against Switzerland and what a game he had.

“He was brilliant from start to finish and capped off a great performance with a first senior international goal that was no more than he deserved.

“Callum felt his hamstring in the second half of the game, so it is best now that he also goes back to Sheffield United for treatment.”

Sheffield United have had a good start to their first season back in the Premier League.

The Blades, under the guidance of Chris Wilder, have drawn twice, won once and also suffered a single defeat.

Their victory came against Crystal Palace when they beat them 1-0 at home.
