PIERRE-EMILE Hojbjerg has been named in Denmark’s squad for their Uefa Euro 2020 qualifiers next month.
Saints’ captain is in line to play against both the Republic of Ireland [7 June] and Georgia [10 June].
With the first of Denmark’s matches coming against Ireland, it leaves the potential for Hojbjerg to battle it out with St Mary’s teammate Shane Long.
The Danish midfielder has enjoyed an excellent second half to the season under Ralph Hasenhuttl’s guidance.
Hasenhuttl named Hojbjerg as the skipper, replacing defender Ryan Bertrand.
Already a leader on the pitch, the former Bayern Munich man took this in his stride and stood up when it counted.
He proved to be the difference during Saints' tense encounter against Brighton when he found the back of the net to win his team a crucial three points.
Denmark are currently third in their qualifying group after they drew one and lost the other in their opening two games.
