Saints will draw their Premier League season to a close against Huddersfield this afternoon.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side won’t have a better chance to break the 40-point mark against this year’s worst team.
Should they pick up the victory, Saints will be able to head into their summer break full of optimism ahead of a gruelling pre-season under their Austrian taskmaster.
It’s a game that shows just how far the St Mary’s side have come under Hasenhuttl.
When he took charge back in December, Saints were behind Huddersfield in the table.
They are now 23 points above the relegated Terriers.
Ahead of this afternoon’s encounter, Hasenhuttl confirmed that Maya Yoshida will also be absent for this match due to the defender still recovering from a strong virus.

Who is the opposition’s key player?
In a season that has been as appalling as theirs, it’s hard to single out an individual who has stood out from the rest.
However, Christopher Schindler has managed to do that.
The defender has made more passes than any other player on his team this campaign and also tops their list for the most clearances.
Schindler, who also captains the club, has revealed that it’s likely he’ll remain at the John Smith’s Stadium, as he still has two years remaining on his current deal.
A closer look at the Huddersfield boss:
After former manager David Wagner departed the club last December, Huddersfield looked to follow the same model as before by appointing Jan Siewert.
Siewert, like Wagner, managed the Borussia Dortmund second team until taking the job at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The Terriers failed to receive the bounce they were after, though.
Siewert has only managed to win one game in the Premier League since taking over Huddersfield in January.
With new owners on board, it’s not yet known whether Siewert will be given the opportunity to bring them back up from the Championship next season.
