BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson is interested to see what happens at Saints this summer.

Lawrenson, who played as a defender for Liverpool during the 1980s, admitted that the south coast club risked their Premier League status when they appointed Ralph Hasenhuttl last December.

But after the Austrian guided his side to safety with two games remaining, the BBC pundit credited the club for their decision-making.

Southampton are safe, and the risk they took when they appointed Ralph Hasenhuttl as manager in December has definitely paid off,” said Lawrenson, speaking to the BBC website.

“Hasenhuttl will now know all about his squad – and what they can and cannot do – and it will be very interesting to see who he tries to sign in the summer.”

Saints travel to West Ham’s London Stadium this afternoon for their final away game of the season.

The Hammers have picked up just one victory in their previous five matches when they beat Tottenham Hotspur at the new White Hart Lane, becoming the first side to win at the stadium.

Because of this, Lawrenson is backing West Ham to beat Saints in front of their home crowd.

Lawrenson added: “West Ham became the first away team to win at Tottenham’s new stadium last week.

“And although they are very up and down, I have a feeling they will sign off with another good performance in their last home game of the season.”
