SOUTHAMPTON Women need a point to clinch the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division title on Easter Sunday after maintaining their 100 per cent record last night.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side made it 16 wins out of 16 with a 6-0 victory at home to Warsash Wasps.
Saints took a 26th-minute lead at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium, when Ellie Chaffe scored from Phoebe Williams’ pass.
Ella Pusey doubled the lead on half-time, rounding goalkeeper Rebecca Gardiner following Georgie Freeland’s excellent cross.
Freeland side-footed the third into the top corner from Shelly Provan’s space left-flank cross.
Substitute Rachel Woods fired in a free-kick and Emily Wernham slammed in the fifth, before Freeland’s looping header completed the scoring.
Saints host Barton Rovers at AFC Totton on Sunday (2pm kick-off) knowing a draw will be enough to seal the title.
