SAINTS goalkeeper Kingsley Latham has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

Even though he is currently on loan with Evo-Stik South side Dorchester Town, Latham still trains at Staplewood during the week.

And the shot-stopper revealed his delight at prolonging his stay at Saints until at least June 2020.

The 20-year-old told the club’s official website: “I’m extremely pleased to have signed until 2020. This club is a great place to be.

“I’m really enjoying my time here so delighted to have extended my stay.

“I’m able to put everything I’ve learnt into practice now, out on loan at Dorchester, which is allowing me to identify strengths and weaknesses to work on.”

Latham joined Saints as an U18 second-year scholar in February 2017 from Yeovil Town after coming through Torquay United’s youth system.

He paid tribute to the way the club has nurtured him from the moment he signed.

Latham added: “I’ve got focuses moving forward now. It’s definitely helped me to mature. Southampton have been fantastic to me since I arrived, they’ve supported me on and off the pitch.

“I’m almost a different goalkeeper to the one who first signed and that’s thanks to everything I’ve learnt here.”

After a recent man-of-the-match performance for Dorchester, Latham told the Dorset Echo: “I’m loving my time down here, I’m really enjoying playing football. I feel like I’ve built up confidence in each game.”
