A FANTASTIC team performance saw the Basingstoke Hockey Club's Ladies third team beat second placed Hamble 2-0.

The team set off with a deliberate strategy to play a high forward and this paid off after 10 minutes with Nicola Burridge finding the back of the net.

In the second half, the thirds stepped up their game and pushed the opposition in a bid to extend the lead which they did, thanks to a penalty corner, which player of the match, Leanne Smith slotting in on the left post.

A great result and a wonderful collective effort from the whole team.

The first team sponsored by KJS Solicitors won their friendly 8-1 against Woking, whilst the seconds beat Aldershot and Farnham 2-0 with goals coming from Sarah Mainprise and Annabelle Johnson.

The fourth team beat Aldershot and Farnham 2-0 with goals from Saf Whitwham and Jess Pritchard.

This week the fifth team faced top of the league Eastleigh seconds, who came in with an expectation that this game was going to be an easy win for them.

However, a strong and determined Basingstoke team has other plans, as Eastleigh found themselves 2-0 down in the first half, with two lovely strikes coming from play of the match Toyah Jefferies and the other from Ellie Rixon.

In the second half, even with tighter marking and more aggressive play, Eastleigh had no response to Basingstoke’s determination.

Some great hockey and team effort allowed Toyah Jefferies to add to her tally with an additional two goals.

Eastleigh attempted to claw their way back, but to no avail, with the 5s walking way with a well-deserved 4-0 win.

The sixth team started the second half of the season in great form in their away game against Winchester Tigers.

The sixths created chances early in the game. It wasn’t long before they got their goal through Joey Lockyer.

Exceptional interceptions and accurate passing from Basingstoke kept Winchester’s attack at bay, with Joey Lockyer scoring her second shortly before half time.

The second half saw Winchester upping their game with Katy Thomson’s goalkeeping skills being put to the test.

Winchester’s efforts paid off, with a goal from a short corner, with the game concluding 2-1 to Basingstoke.

The Ladies seventh side won 6-1 against Hamble with two goals each from the trio of Bev MacKay, Luci McCallum, and Claire Keeley.

The team played exceptionally well throughout the game, holding their shape and controlling the game from start to finish.

Player of the match went to Eleanor Roberts for consistent defending throughout the game.

The under 16 girls won 7-2 against Alton, with four goals from Jasmine Payne and others came from Ellie Rixon, Sophie Davenport and Emily Taylor.

The under-12 girls held their own in a 3-0 defeat against Fleet and Ewshott.

The men’s first team won 5-1 against Oxted III, with the men’s seconds also won 5-0 against Petersfield.

Not be the outdone the men’s thirds beat Aldershot and Farnham 4-0.

Basingstoke men's fourth team came back from behind to beat Havant 4-2.

It was a slow start with Basingstoke conceding two goals in the first.

However, having regrouped, the second half, saw Basingstoke playing some great hockey, and literally camping in Havant's half.

Eventually making a break through, Kyle McFee found the back of the net.

The game was level minutes later with McFee scoring a magnificent solo goal on the counter, beating the goalkeeper from the top of the D.

With 10 minutes remaining, player of the match Euan Rixson gave Basingstoke the lead with a smart finish, and the game ending with a 4-2 win to Basingstoke.

The under-16 boys team played an exciting match against Camberley and Farnborough, eventually winning 2-1 with a deciding goal in the last two minutes of the game.

Joseph Grice slotted home Basingstoke's first goal with Tomas Bonser setting up a shot for Tommy Reading to drive home the second. A great all-round match.
