Former Saints manager Mark Hughes has been listed by bookmakers as 33/1 to become the next Manchester United manager.

United parted company with Jose Mourinho this morning, following a devastating 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

A statement released by the club said: "Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

"The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

"A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager."

With Hughes out of work, the Welshman may fancy a return to his former club, but could face competition with another ex-Saints boss, who has also made the bookies’ list to replace Mourinho.

Fresh from being crowned as King of the Jungle in this year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! series, Harry Redknapp is 50/1 to takeover in the United dugout.

Saints fans took to Twitter to poke fun at the possibility of either one of the duo being appointed on a caretaker basis.
